Merry Christmas
I hope everyones Christmas was better than ours. I had it all planned out. The day before christmas we went looking for building materials to build the next bigger tortoise enclosure. We also spent quite a while looking at doors and windows and such for the new house. Anyway I finally settled on some wood at Home Depot. I needed 12 inch wide boards this time because the little tort is almost big enough to clime out in a few places now. Since nothing is open on Christmas day anyway I had planned to spend all day working on it. Everything started out ok while I was using the two four foot boards. Once I got to the eight foot board though everything went downhill. First of all my ability to cut wood that is that wide is severely diminished by some of the tools I currently have. I can generally over come this obstacle and achieve the results I want though. the big problem really is that you just can't buy strait wood from Home Depot. I bought the straightest one I could find but when I actually started cutting on it was immediately obvious that there was no way I was going to get the results I wanted using this crap. The wood was so cupped at one end the there was a quarter of an inch difference between the edges and the middle, and this was the best one I found. The other end was much flatter so I decided to move on and make as many pieces as I could. Trouble was that once I got the board in my jig properly I noticed a slight warp to the entire board. Now I was stuck because I wasn't sure which way I should position this rocking chair to get the right cut. UURGHH stupid @%$#&^%#$%%%$#@!!!!!%^% board. Sigh. After that I decided the best thing to do was to clean up and do something else.
Shortly I will be off to the Home Depot again to buy more wood. This time I am only buying the four foot boards though. I can't wait until I get my shop and can finally get the tools I need to make the wood as strait as I need it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.
