Family Day

This Saturday is Family Day and Kennedy Space Center. This is a day in which any employee can bring a car load of family or friends out to the center to see where they work. Many of the normally very restricted processing areas will be open to visitors. One of the OPF bays will have the doors open exposing the shuttle Endeavour. I think visitors will also have limited access inside the bay. The VAB Transfer Isle will be open and visitors will be able to go inside far enough to get a feeling of how big that building really is. That is where all of the shuttle stack elements go through before being stacked on the MLP. There will also be a shuttle stack at the launch pad. It will be covered up by the pad structure but it will still be a great sight. There will be a whole lot more to see but those are the main attractions. This time employees will also be able to take there guests to the office or shop area where they actually work. I'm not sure if we will be able to go to Jen's office or not. We will be able to go to the building where I work. I just have to make sure that when I leave work on Friday night that I clean all the crap off of my desk.
Jen's Mom and Dad are coming into town Saturday morning and Jen and I will take them on a really good tour. They a coming from Tallahassee, FL which is about a five hour drive. They are driving down early Saturday morning and are planning to leave Saturday evening. I think this is crazy, but they are doing it so they don't have to put their dog in a kennel. I can understand that. We could never put our hounds in a kennel either, no matter how nice it is.
This is the first family day at KSC since 2000. The 9/11 attacks shut down all events similar to this for the last 6 years. I really didn't think they would ever have anything like this again. I'm glad they are though.
