"The Process"
OK. We had our meeting with the commissioner and the county attorney and some assorted other reps. It started out like many other meetings that we have had. They say we can't have what we want, we say why not, they come up with some lame reason, we tell them why it won't work. And round and round we go.
After the obligatory county "beating of the dead horse" that has happened at all of our meetings so far, we finally started to get some where. Aparently we have been on some great quest where everyone knows the rules but you. The county board will not approve the waiver because it might set a precedent in some alternate reality. The thing is that the denial of the waiver request was also part of the process. Now that we have crossed the great void that is the county commission we finally know the last clue that will lead us to the holy grail. The final part of our journey is to hire an attorney and have him argue that we have exhausted all of our options and now the county has to either has to pay us for the land and everything that we have spent or let us build the way it is. There is a lot of legal stuff that goes along with that is the gist of will happen.
We are pretty sure that almost everyone else finally gets what the situation is. There was definitely an intelligence "bell curve" in the room. As usual most of the people were in the high middle, but the low ends were there in force. On one end was the land development representative. She really liked that dead horse and kept going over and giving it another kick. i guess she really liked it. On the other side was a guy that liked to pick ideas out of thin air. He was beating the other end of that horse. Poor horse. It would all be very comical except that he is our assistant county manager. Really gives you that warm fuzzy feeling that everything is in good hands.
To summarize: "Go hire a lawyer, come back to the board and you have a high percentage chance of getting what you want". You've gotta love government.
